How to Make an Intuitive Vision Board

For many years now I’ve created a vision board for my year ahead. This always begins with some mindful reflection of my previous year’s learning, to help guide my intentions for the new year ahead of me.

Start With an intention Word

Once I have a word or words to focus on, I go about writing them and selecting colours and imagery to bring those intentions to life and into the world.

For 2022, my word is Voice.

Green like fresh new growth felt meaningful to depict this word intention. So I wrote my word with oil pastel in these colours.

Draw imagery related to intentions

My next step is to find images and ideas that relate to my intention word.

Speaking my truth feels like an unfolding flower, so I found real-life flowers and flower images off the internet, then drew them into my design.

Add colour to match intentions

Next I use paint and pens to bring colour into my artwork. I go by my intuition when it comes to colour.

The word ‘Voice’ felt both soft and bold, so used soft and floaty watercolours and left some white space to depict openness.

Introduce Collage Additions

Collage is one of my fave ways to bring my vision board to life. I flip through magazines and find images that vibe with my intention word, and cut them out.

I also choose words or sayings from magazines and arrange them onto my board.

I love layering them in interesting ways so they all merge together to tell a story.

Frame and Hang Somewhere Pertinent

Its vital that a vision board be placed somewhere you’ll see it every day. For years now I’ve hung my framed vision board on the back of my toilet door! This is a place I see it every day and can ponder and feel into my intention, 365 days a year.

At the end of the year, it’s great to do a bit of journaling to reflect on your visions for the year just passed, to guide your new year intentions.
