Peachy, Pinky, Nature Art Hues

Hi gorgeous ๐Ÿ’— Today Iโ€™m bringing you some peachy, pinky snippets of my recent nature art projects.

Above: Flowering Red Gum - these lovelies flower in Summer usually every second year, so it was a treat to come across them!

Dyeing & Printing with plants

Iโ€™m loving Eco printing with local grasses, gum pods and flowers on Strathmore hot pressed watercolour paper. Here, Iโ€™ve then dyed the paper pink using homemade avocado seed dye. Created on Gubbi Gubbi Country.

Exploring flowers to use in eco-printing:

  • First, I ensure any flowers, leaves and grasses I use are non-toxic using the free Pl@ntNet app

  • I ask the plants first if I can pick them (itโ€™s true!) and I forage fallen leaf matter off the ground

  • If I do make a cutting for my eco prints, I take only a small amount - never more than 10% of the plantโ€™s harvest, to ensure itโ€™s longevity and availability to other insects and creatures

Fallen flower/plant harvest for eco-prints

  • Red Hibiscus flowers (this turns deep blue/grey when steamed)

  • Pink Hibiscus flowers (turns bright yellow!)

  • Eucalyptus pods (makes teracotta prints)

  • Orange cosmos (prints deep warm red-orange)
