Art Market Recap

The last couple of weeks has been awesome! I love doing markets because I love connecting with people and hearing their stories; who they’re buying gifts for, why they’ve chosen a particular artwork and where it’s new home will be.

It’s taken me a couple of years, but I’m finally happy with how my market art stall has come together. It’s really functional, easy to set up and take down and most of all, it has a nice balance of space to feature each of my artsy goodies in a pretty way!

A few people ask me where I get my display stuff from. Some of it I’ve accumulated over the years, like baskets, bowls and fabric treasures. The white cube stands were from Homeart a few months back and I’ve just cut holes in the back and threaded dowel through to make a hanging display.

The sign is from VistaPrint, which I received in the post the day of my most recent market! YAY!

The little stands below with my cards, artworks and notebooks on them are from a great company called Image Display Creations. The customer service they provide is excellent! It’s based around the Byron Bay area but they post for really reasonable rates. I’ve made the little round price cards myself, using wooden pegs and some pretty scalloped post-it notes, glued onto cardboard and cut into circles. The handwriting makes a special personal touch!

Inside the cubes I’ve got my artworks on little clear stands which I picked up for a few bucks a pack in a cheap shop near home. You could probably find something similar in Crazy Clarke’s or your local $2 store. I found some woven basket magazine racks to house my art prints and protect them while they’re being fumbled through. I use PackItIn for all my cello sleeves and cardboard mailers. My business cards (in the bowl) are from Moo.com.

Finally, the new additions you see above are my paper weights, which I made using some glass weights I bought at a destash craft sale! I only got a handful of them, so if you know where I might be able to find some more, let me know!

If you’d like to come visit me I have my final market for 2012 at the BrisStyle Indie Designer’s Market on December 8th at Racecourse Road Hamilton. Love to see you there!
