Colour + nature musings
When it comes to colour combos, I definitely go through stages. Because I work intuitively I never know what’s going to unfold until each present moment, until each brush stroke or creative addition pops into my awareness. Yet even without conscious intention, I still notice colour and form themes, emerging at different times in my life.
At present, I feel jazzed by purples pinks and oranges, with pops of mint green, aqua and blue. I’m into flourishing plants, birds, wings, arches and dots. I love seeing these translate differently using different colours applied in infinite combinations and form.
The three pics in this post are of artworks and plants that came to me this week. Tomorrow, my inspirations may all change. Yet eternally, there’s something about how colour and nature ‘feels’ as I engage with them. When I paint a leaf, it’s not just merely colouring with paint. I can feel the energy of the leaf, like my hands are the wind caressing the shape into form. I feel in my body what needs to come through onto the page and I rarely challenge these decisions as I’ve learned to trust my inner, creative flow.
Colour adds depth and highlight to my paintings, but also catharsis as I smear the paint on the page. Art-making feels like my inner energy, expressed in motions, into visual form. So powerful, so freeing, so beautiful.
Colour has always been a tool I’ve used to express myself, in my art, the way I dress and taking in life around me. Do you feel a deep affinity with colour too? I feel so blessed to live in a world full of colour and nature, with eyes that can perceive a heart that feels and hands that can express into new forms.
Creating art is never a waste of time, for the process itself takes us into infinite possibility. That’s why creativity is such an important tool for open-hearted living. 🌈💗🎨🌿👐
