New Artwork ~ ‘Sanctuary’

Every now and again I paint something I just don’t want to part with. This is one of those paintings.

Meet ‘Sanctuary’.

This is the most work I’ve ever put into a painting. I’d say there’s around 20 hours in this piece. Here’s how it unfolded over the week …

I struggled with this piece a little as I was creating it, mostly because I promised myself to be completely honest throughout the entire process.

My way of working is to create with feeling and sometimes, it takes a little soul-searching to find an image, shape or colour to depict my feeling, because it involves slowing down, sitting still and going within. In the past, I’ve created with urgency and creative fury.

So I think that’s why I love this piece and I want to keep it – for now. It represents to me, the moment when I finally invested enough love in myself to really take my time with a loving, honest, heartfelt process on a level I’ve never experienced before.
