Making Art for Me

Discovering creative interests

This week I’ve been exploring mark making, really getting back to basics with my values and interests around creativity.

I collected a bunch of old artworks and folded them up to make my own sketchbook. I’ve looked around my house and local nature areas to find objects I love and am interested in. I’m exploring my existing art materials and seeing what I can do with them that feels exciting and new.

As I do, I’m slowly going through and reworking my old pages with lines, subject matter, patterns and colours I’m interested in. It feels utterly playful, invigorating and zero-pressure-y to create for the sake of joyful discovery.

Im transforming my old art with new, fresher-feeling versions of me that feel more aligned with who I’m becoming.

Create for the sake of Joy

As an artist of over 20 years, it’s so utterly refreshing to make art just for me in a sketchbook, without a shred of need to refine an artwork for future sale.

I feel so much more in tune with myself. It’s an absolute joy to create and rediscover what I’m interested in and what naturally lights me up.

We don’t need a legitimate reason to make art. It’s available as an endeavour in life to nourish, engage and joyously experience.

Simply playing with colours and lines and shapes is an incredible way to spend life moments.
