The Cure for a Closet Artist

So often I have conversations with Closet Artists. By 'Closet Artist' I mean the everyday person who has a secret desire to paint, but who won't try because they think their work will be shit.

Every time, my response is the same ...

Why not make Art just because it feels good?

I never make a Art because I have a grand plan in my mind for the perfect painting. I do it, because pushing paint around, smearing it with my fingers, mixing colours, inventing new combinations that 'sing' together, and expressing my feelings with paint simply feels wonderful to me.

How often do we let ourselves just play?

Imagine if we could all let go of trying to get it 'right' and just create purely for the fun of it. Whether it's painting, a walk in nature, making a meal ... Why does it have to have a purpose of perfection? An outcome-based activity sets us up for expectation.

What if instead, we let our inner child out to play and experienced the wonder, the enjoyment, the presence in the moment? Then the painting process could be an end to itself ... Beautiful time, well spent, with a delicious bent of self-care and Love.

Let's get back to enjoying the process.

All my Love,
